What are the benefits of doing a cleanse?
Cleanses are an opportunity to take a break from meal planning & making wise food decisions. We will make the decisions for you and ensure that all foods, juices and smoothies are nutrient dense and delicious! Benefits of a cleanse MAY include:
What is the difference between this cleanse and a fast?
During a fast you do not eat any food. There are different types of fasts including water fasts & juice fasts. This differs in that you will be having some solid food each day in the form of a green smoothie, and during the first three days you will be eating a raw vegan meal. Fasts can be very beneficial, however the intent of this cleanse is to help build up nutrients in your body, while minimizing food cravings.
What if I get hungry between the scheduled meals / drinks?

Part of the program is to detox, which is a challenge if your body spends all of it’s time and energy digesting food. In order to get the most benefit from this program it is highly recommended that you refrain from all snacking between meals. Detoxification is heightened during a period referred to as glycolosis - when your body begins to use glycogen stored in the liver for energy. If we are constantly digesting, we stay in post-prandial glucose stage (digestion), limiting our detox. True hunger lets you know when the glycolosis phase is over, before gluconeogenesis (the formation of needed glucose from muscles) begins to prevent loss of muscle mass.
I am very active and am concerned that I will not be satiated by the provided food and drinks?
During Phase 1, if you are not feeling satiated after eating your meal or drinking your smoothie we encourage you eat raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and/or seeds. We do not recommend snacking between the scheduled meals, so be sure to check-in with yourself at completion of your meal to determine if you need more food at that time.
I am interested in doing this, but am not sure if I can do this on my own.
Throughout the cleanse, email support will be available with Monica. In addition, all participants will have full access to a discussion forum that is password protected on the PuraVegan website. Part of the purpose of the kick-off meeting is to enable you to meet the other cleansers that are also on the forum.
Will the juices and smoothies stay good for the entire 5 day cleanse?
Yes. Juices should be consumed immediately after juicing for maximum nutrition. To prevent oxidation and minimize loss of nutrients we are placing the fresh juices and smoothies into glass canning jars, removing the air and sealing the jars. During the meeting we will show you how to open the jars without damage so that they can be reused. If you would like to return your jars (in good condition) you may bring them back after the cleanse in exchange for a dinner entree of your choice.
What type of meals will be prepared during the Phase 1?
All Phase 1 meals will be raw, vegan, gluten-free, and oil-free. They will be nutrient dense foods that taste delicious while also providing maximum nutrients!
What do I do after my cleanse is completed?
Remember that the was a cleanse and not a fast, therefore your digestive system has been working, just less than usual. We recommend either continuing Phase 1 or some variation of it as a lifestyle now that you have built healthy habits. Remember to continue with only eating when truly hungry, and stopping a meal when you no longer are hungry. It sounds simple, but for most of us we lose touch with this simple practice.
What happens if I fall off the cleanse schedule?
While we encourage you to follow the cleanse schedule for maximum benefit, we know that sometimes it just doesn't happen that way. We encourage you to reflect on how you are feeling physically and if you are well to continue and jump back on schedule.
